The Santa Monica home of Out Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl was the scene of an early morning search warrant
LOS ANGELES – The Santa Monica home of Out Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl was the scene of an early morning search warrant being executed by detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Public Corruption Unit and the Santa Monica Police.
Kuehl was home at the time when investigators arrived around 7 a.m. Wednesday and spoke to reporters outside shortly afterward.
“This strikes me as being part of a sort of bogus, non-investigation. There is no investigation going on that would support this warrant,” Kuehl said.
In a press statement the LASD said that search warrants at multiple locations in connection with an ongoing public corruption investigation were executed including the homes of Supervisor Kuehl and Los Angeles County Civilian Oversight Commissioner Patricia “Patti” Giggans.
Investigators also executed search warrants at Kuehl and Giggans’ offices located in the Los Angeles County Hall of Administration; Peace Over Violence Headquarters, and LA Metro Headquarters.
According to the LASD the investigation is being shared with an unnamed federal agency.
The reason for the search was not immediately known. However, the Sheriff’s Department has been investigating the non-profit, Peace Over Violence, which is run by a close associate of Kuehl’s, Alene Tchekmedyian of the Los Angeles Times reports.
As reporters gathered outside her home as the search was ongoing Kuehl, who represents L.A. County’s 3rd District, spoke with KABC 7 News.
Kuehl told KABC that the warrant calls for a complete search of her home. She said the warrant does not disclose any other information outside of those details.
She claims there is no ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s department and believes it stems from a “bogus non-issue” related to claims brought on by a disgruntled METRO employee.
“We didn’t vote on a contract, we didn’t even know about the contract,” said Kuehl, who claims the employee’s issue comes from an alleged contract brought on by METRO that was negotiated with Peace Over Violence, which Kuehl said she did not vote on. “These deputies have been brought into something that is kind of non-existent.”
She continued saying, “There’s no claim of any crime. There’s no basis for this.”
Los Angeles City Councilmember Mike Bonin came to the defense of Kuehl and blasted Sheriff Alex Villanueva on social media.
“A corrupt sheriff with a track record of abusing his power and trying to silence and intimidate his critics is conducting a bogus, vindictive, politically motivated witch hunt against @SheilaKuehl, a public official of the highest integrity,” Bonin tweeted.

Wednesday evening Supervisor Sheila Kuehl issued at statement on what she labeled a “retaliatory LASD search of her home.”
In tweet later Wednesday, the Office of the Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón indicated the office was not inclined to take action on the results of the search by the LASD:
Statement on Search Warrants Served on #LACounty Supervisor’s Home, Others: The allegation was investigated by LASD & submitted for filing consideration in September 2021. We reviewed the case and determined that the state of the evidence at that time did not prove criminal…🧵 pic.twitter.com/iCrLmQyzoG
In this case, because we did not review the warrant beforehand, we do not intend to defend it if challenged in court.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva made no further comment regarding the details of the investigation but did speak with reporters justifying the investigation.

Shootings within 15 minutes of each other had LASDs deputies & LAPD officers scrambling in West Hollywood and adjacent Hollywood
LOS ANGELES – A pair of non-related shootings in the early morning hours Monday within 15 minutes of each other had Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies and Los Angeles Police officers scrambling in West Hollywood and adjacent Hollywood.
A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson said that deputies were called to the ‘About Last Night lounge and Restaurant’ located at 8947 Sunset Boulevard on the famed Sunset strip after an alteration between two customers escalated when one of them pulled out a handgun and opened fire striking the other individual.
The LASD said that the gunman fled and was arrested near-by responding units, a weapon was also located. The unnamed victim was taken to hospital and is in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Los Angeles Police Department Officer Lizeth Lomeli told media outlets that LAPD officers responded to a report of a “shooting in progress” about 12:45 a.m. in the 7000 block of Hollywood Boulevard near the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
According to the LAPD, the arriving officers located a 17-year-old male suffering from gunshot wounds and transported him to hospital, where he died from his injuries. The LAPD also noted that a handgun was located next to the teen and detectives believe him to be one of four men described as involved in the shooting outside a CVS near the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and North Sycamore Avenue at around 1:00 AM.
LAPD investigators are searching for a second suspect who was described as about 5 feet 10 inches tall and wearing all black clothing and armed with semi-automatic weapon.
The violence earlier today in Hollywood comes four weeks after the latest crime statistics were released which showed that year to date, Hollywood has seen a 75% increase in homicides and 35.6% increase in shots fired, while robbery and theft have risen by 19.4% and 24.7% respectively, compared to 2021.
According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department West Hollywood saw a rise in crime rates by 38% in July although earlier this year in a presentation to the City of West Hollywood’s Public Safety Commission, the LASD detailed a 137% increase in crime in WeHo over 2021.
